Shugoro Nakazato    Shorin-Ryu (Small Forest Way)

Shugoro Nakazato started karate training under Seiichi Iju and kobudo (sai, bo, nunchuku, tunfa and nichokama under Seiro Tonaki, in Sakai City in 1935 and remained their student for 5 years.

During the war he enlisted in the Japanese army and upon his discharge returned to Okinawa and began his studies under Chosin Chibana of who he is quoted as saying "(Chibana was) the most eminent karate of that time"

In 1951 he opened the Chibana Dai Ichi Dojo with his sensei and after receiving his Shihan license from Chibana opened his own dojo, The Shorin-ryu Shorin Kan, Nakazato dojo, in Naha.
